News from Porur...

Apologies for the long break in updating the blog.

Patti's recovery has been substantial over the last 1 or 2 weeks. She now takes only 1 dose of medicines everyday. With Amma's help, she walks to Kamakshi Amman Temple and sits there and says her prayers for about 15 minutes a day (She has been doing this for the past 3 days) .

Aug 29/30 update

Patti is a lot better.....She has started reading spiritual literature, watching TV, doing short puja. The pain is much more bearable - is what she says.

Amma talked to the doctor today to keep him informed of the progress and to seek his opinion about continuing the medicines. The doctor has reduced the dosage.

Viji Athai and Saroja Patti are coming tomorrow from Bangalore to see Patti. Appa is also coming to Chennai sometime next week.

Aug 25 update

Yesterday another course of medicines got over; but Patti's pain had not subsided. So Amma and Thatha took her to the doctor; who suggested another set of blood tests for a second opinion. That was done and the doctor prescribed medicines.

She is feeling better today morning. She eats more of oats than rice; so now we are getting a fair idea about what to give her and what not to give her to eat.

Aug 20 - update

Patti has not had fever since she started having the medicines. Her appetite has improved slightly and the pain has also slightly reduced. She moves around the house at times, in an effort to do walking exercises.

Two anecdotes that i wish to share with all of you -

1. I read out Akila Akka's brief note to Patti. Both Amma and i felt that the choice of words in the note could not have been better. It conveyed what was on all our minds but it was something that we had struggled to communicate to Patti all these days.

Patti listened to it, smiled and nodded her head. (Then she told Amma - 'Raja would be extremely tired after a long day at the office. Give him something to eat.' :) )

Sincerely hope that she follows it in letter and in spirit. :)

2. Not sure if Kunja Athai told you this: During one of our earlier visits to the doctor, he , after thoroughly examining Patti, said that there was nothing serious to worry about, prescribed medicines (as he always does). Then he said: 'Ok, am sure you would do well and get well soon..i hope you would not want to see me again' , to which Patti replied: ' No, but i will surely visit you once to thank you for having cured me.'

The doctor, however, had the last word. He said: ' For doing that, you need not take the trouble of coming all the way. Please convey your wishes over the phone.'

Hope that makes her feel better....

Updates - August 15 , 16 and 17

It was an extended weekend for us in India with :

Aug 15 - Independence day , Varalakshmi Vritham /Karvaa Chauth
Aug 16 - Avani Avittam , Raksha Bandhan
Aug 17 - Gayathri Japam

As mentioned in the previous post, the pain killer medicine was stopped from Thursday. During the weekend, Patti had slight fever - she has recovered now - and loose motions on Sunday (that is also under control now). At times, she experienced shooting pain, and it was painful to see her plight. Her food intake has to improve.

The biggest positives that were observed during this weekend were - her face now looks brighter than before ; and she voluntarily walked and moved around the house (a big improvement - although for very short distances only)...

..........Amma called the doctor today to inform him that the course of medicines had got over, but Patti is still having intermittent pain...Responding to this , the doctor requested to stop all medicines (other than calcium and vitamin) for a week...

Let us wait and watch..
